EDC to offer web design course as part of Tech Training Accelerator initiative

The San Juan County Economic Development Council (EDC) will host a Web Design Learning Cohort this fall, as part of its Technical Education Acceleration Initiative.

The next course will present an introduction to the skills needed for a career as a web designer, starting in September this year. The course will be offered online through Udemy, and a cohort of students will meet weekly with an EDC advisor to achieve successful benchmarks, working on course material on their own schedules.

In this course, students will learn the latest best practices in web and UX/UI design. It introduces much-requested tools like Figma and Webflow to show a complete start-to-finish website development workflow, effectively taking students from zero to a point where they can get hired or earn freelance contracts.

The program is very hands-on, and students will complete over a dozen small assignments along the way. This low-cost course is open to San Juan County participants ages 18 and older who are looking to pursue a career in web design or supplement their income with freelance web design work.

The course will be divided into weekly assignments which can be completed on one’s own schedule, averaging 5 hours per week. EDC will be hosting consultative meetings via Zoom on Tuesdays at 10 a.m., from September 20 to November 1, 2022. These meetings will give attendees the opportunity to check in with the rest of the group, discuss course materials, and ask questions. .
